Community Engagement
This work is rooted in the belief that research should translate into real-world impact. I partner with local organizations, agencies, and system-impacted communities to address inequities in health and the criminal legal system. Through initiatives such as my annual Bleed with Dignity period product drive, the development of accessible health education resources, and collaborative programming with reentry and youth-focused organizations, I work to bridge scholarship and practice to create meaningful change
What I do
I launched Bleed with Dignity in 2020 to combat period poverty in my community and increase menstrual health equity. Each year, I coordinate a large-scale menstrual product drive, collecting and distributing thousands of pads, tampons, and other essential supplies. I partner with local health providers and community organizations to develop and share educational resources tailored for system-impacted women and girls—including those returning from incarceration, at-risk youth, and survivors of gender-based violence.
Why it matters
This initiative not only addresses an urgent unmet need but also fosters awareness about menstrual health as a critical component of overall well-being. By combining resource distribution with education, Bleed with Dignity works to dismantle stigma, promote self-advocacy, and ensure that all individuals have the knowledge and supplies they need to manage their menstrual health with dignity.
